Funeral Mass for George Floyd June 9, 2020
Today, at the request of the California Catholic Conference of Bishops, all parishes in the State of California will celebrate Mass in memory of George Floyd and the healing of sin of racism and its effects in our lives and country.
All parishes will use the same readings and, in place of a spoken sermon, congregations observe a period of silence and silent reflection and prayer for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.
Archbishop Gomez has also approved ringing church bells for the same period of time in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
As usual, we will be live streaming our English Mass at 8:00am and our Spanish immediately following.
For your personal reflection I would recommend the message of Cardinal Sean O’Malley OFM Cap. which he sent to people of his Archdiocese, Boston MA.
For a longer reflection, please take the time to read the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (UCCB) pastoral letter: Open Wide Our Hearts: The enduring call to Love. A Pastoral Letter Against Racism
