In today’s Gospel Jesus is the gate. He keeps the flock safe at night. The flock behind him belongs to many shepherds; they are all together for safety. They are less vulnerable.
This is a good time to reflect that God calls all Christians together in times of peril and crisis. As a large group we are less vulnerable to the evil one.
Pope Francis said that when a Christian is martyred by a terrorist they do not ask their denomination. They are known only as a Christian.
During this pandemic let us also reach out to our fellow Christians, whatever their denomination. Let us be shepherds to others. Finally, let us pray for those Christians who are persecuted in Syria, Iraq, Iran, China and elsewhere.
