Baptism of the Lord
January 9, 2022
Luke 3:15-16, 21-22
Today, Jesus shows his willingness to obey His Father. Being baptized in the River Jordan was a ritual emersion of dying and rising. It was a symbolic way of saying “Yes” to his Father’s plan for our salvation, namely, his death on the cross and ultimate resurrection. We experience our personal baptism daily whenever we say “No” to sin and “Yes” to God’s grace. We choose good over evil. In this way, we show our willingness to obey the Father by living the two great commandments, love of God and love of neighbor.
