Solemnity of Corpus Christi June 6, 2021 Mark 14: 12 – 16; 22 – 26
The name 'Corpus Christi' is Latin for 'the body of Christ'. This jubilant festival is celebrated by Roman Catholics and other Christians to proclaim the truth of the transubstantiation of bread and wine into the actual body of Christ during Mass.
The Solemnity of Corpus Christi was instituted by Pope Urban IV in 1264. The Eucharist is the real presence of Jesus Christ: His Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. As vaccinations increase and restrictions are lessened, we have the opportunity to once again be in Church with our Lord in his Eucharistic presence. The mystery of God, love of itself, disguised under the form of bread.
