Luke 15: 1 – 3; 11-32
Scripture Scholars have often said that this parable should be called the Parable of the Merciful Father. He is clearly the image of God. His older son is estranged from the Father; he is trapped by the legalism of the Law. His younger son is estranged as well; he lives a life without God’s law in his heart. The merciful father is “reckless” in his lavish love for both. He calls them both back into the house, a symbol of the Kingdom. With whom do we identify, the older or younger son? The merciful Father is looking and waiting for us as well.
