Jesus does not define who our “enemy” may be. However, we do have plenty of clues. I would like to offer one. Since Jesus came to “unify what was scattered,” namely the 12 tribes of Israel, and all nations, we should consider the response as anyone with whom there is some tension or discord. Perhaps there is someone whom we dislike or with whom we are judgmental. I guess it would be anyone whom we do not see as a friend. This is the challenge of the Gospel – namely, to love our enemies and pray for our persecutors.
