When you see the words “rich man” in today’s Gospel, please read “greedy!” He did not care about anyone else but himself. Lazarus is probably not the only example of his selfishness. However, he is at his door, literally. Yet, he doesn’t see him. We can all miss someone who needs help. Maybe it is the person around our own table or someone at the end of a freeway off ramp? How can we better use the social services of our community to donate food and clothing? Can we make a “sacrificial stretch” and do even more? Jesus certainly did. Let’s try and use him as the person to whom we aspire.
