Luke 5: 1 – 11
This week we hear the story of Peter, James and John being overwhelmed by the majestic power of God. Following Jesus command, they have caught so many fish that they are in fear of his power. They have a sense of their unworthiness in the presence of the Divine. This is one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit called, Fear of the Lord. It has nothing to do with fearing a vengeful, angry God. Rather, it about being overwhelmed by a loving, compassionate God – and realizing how underserving we are being God’s friends. Their abandonment of their boats/livelihood and following Jesus is symbolic of their new journey, namely, letting go of their old ideas of The Lord and embracing new ones that speak to his love and mercy. Let us pray for this wonderful gift so as to know our Father.
