Jesus, the King of the Jews, gives new meaning to the word, king. In our Faith, the King of the
Jews and King of the Universe washes the feet of his disciples and dies on a cross. His crown is
not one of gold and jewels. Rather it is a crown of thorns. His throne is not one of gold. It is a
wooden cross. This is a new understanding of the word, king, for those who follow Jesus. He
comes among us as “one who serves.” This is how we celebrate the Kingship of Jesus Christ.
This is what he expects of us until his Second Coming. We are called to be a humble servant
leader.
