First Sunday in Advent November 28, 2021 Luke 21:25-28, 34-36 Stand Confidently – Your Salvation is Near! It is interesting how Advent begins with readings about the end times, the Final Coming of Christ, not the early parts of the story of Jesus’ birth. The Church wants us to focus on the purpose of his coming, namely, our salvation. His death and resurrection will bring a “new heaven and a new earth.” We will be created anew. We are called to prepare ourselves through acts of love to stand confidently before the Lord when he comes. In this way, we will have nothing to fear.

Solemnity of Christ the King November 21, 2021 Luke 21:25-28, 34-36 Fear or Faith? On this Feast of Christ the King we see two responses to these times of tribulation, fear or faith. The first is fear. These people live in terror of how the world will end. The second response is faith. These people listen with confidence to the words of the Lord, “Stand erect; raise your heads; your redemption is at hand!” Two different responses to the same earthshaking events. The feast of Christ the King encourages us to “stand erect and raise our head” as we confidently look forward to the Second Coming of Christ. In confidence, let us prepare with works of charity and mercy to all.
